Comment: After trialling with Parramatta while still at Ipswich Grammar, where he made the Qld Schoolboys, Carl waited until mid 2004 before moving back to Rugby League. He made an instant impact scoring 2 tries in his debut for Brothers-Valleys. When Brothers-Valleys folded, he transferred to Wests Wollongong & led the way in the centres for the Devils scoring 14 tries in 11 games helping them to the Group Grand Final. He won the Devils “Best Back” Award for the Club and was the youngest player to be selected in the Illawarra Division Rep team. He then signed with the Cronulla Sharks & began to stand out in Premier grade before a knee injury finished his season. He worked hard & established himself back in Premier grade in 2007, finishing the season strongly & pushing for an NRL spot. With the Premier Grade Comp being disbanded, he moved back to Wests in Wollongong for 2008 & finished as the Illawarra Comp’s leading try scorer making the Division Rep team (Australian Country champions) again. He re-signed with Wests for 2009 & 2010under the guidance of NRL legend Paul MacGregor, winning back to back premierships. In 2010 Carl was named Wests best defensive player.
